Register here About Belly Dance Belly dance fusion has roots in Middle Eastern dance with influences from contemporary dance. Belly dance is about women for women. It is accessible to women of all ages, sizes and shapes. It is one way to reclaim one’s body. Belly dance is uplifting and joyous and can release positive endorphins. It requires the mind to engage with the body. It can reduce the risk of memory loss and can encourage creative expression and healing. It can improve one’s core strength, muscle tone and pelvic floor. Belly dance can boost self-esteem by connecting with self and other women as community. With the added bonus of water, belly dance can reduce joint pain and improve flexibility. Belly dance allows women to enter a state of flow and promotes stress reduction. Finally, belly dance can help lymphatic flow and the elimination of toxins while promoting better sleep. It is gentle, fun, engaging and healing. |
About Michelle Michelle Richter has a masters of education with over 20 years experience as a teacher. Dance, and the arts have been an important part of her adult life in one form or another. Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 and with metastatic breast cancer in 2024. Michelle found dancing as one way to deal with the devastating diagnosis. She has found that water and belly dance allow her to heal and re-connect to her body, femininity and identity. Michelle is passionate about encouraging women also fighting/surviving cancer to step out of their comfort zone and try this dance form in the water as an expressive part of their healing journey. |
