Meet Our Committee Members

Picture

Tracy

Tracy is an oncology physiotherapist and certified lymphedema therapist. After working to establish support for women diagnosed with breast cancer through The Pink Earth Angels and Saskatchewan Breast Cancer Connect, Tracy helped establish the Inpower Breast Cancer Support Group in 2013 with the founding committee of breast cancer survivors. Her main focus is helping to build education, legacy and rehabilitation/fitness programs and serves as the co-chair.

Chantel
Chantel experienced a cancer diagnosis in November of 2012 at the age of 37 years old. As an active teacher and a mother of two, her stage three HER 2 Positive diagnosis was extremely devastating. As her strength returned, she was committed to helping other women make connections with others with cancer and women “who get it.” As a founding member of Inpower in 2013, her dedication to creating educational, empowering opportunities for others and giving women with cancer a voice, has become a true focus in her life.

In between her volunteer work, Chantel’s focus includes her 25+ year teaching career working with middle years students and travelling the roads of Saskatchewan for many baseball road trips with her family, Loni, Lukas, and Kane.

Sandra

Sandra was diagnosed with Stage 2 HER 2 Positive breast cancer at the age of 43. Early in her journey she experienced the isolation and loneliness that a cancer diagnosis can bring, and once she found Inpower and the Breast Friends group, she knew she needed to be a greater part of it. The power of connecting with other women “who get it” is invaluable. No one needs to do this alone.

Sandra stays busy as an elementary school vice-principal/teacher, wife and mom to 2 daughters, and fur-baby Luna. She enjoys camping, cooking and reading in her spare time.

Renai

Renai was diagnosed with stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer in June 2021 and finished active treatment in January 2023. Being diagnosed during Covid was particularly challenging, increasing the need for connection and support. She received just that from Inpower and a local support group during and after treatment, and couldn’t wait to get involved to pay that forward to others.

Renai finds comfort in talking to those newly diagnosed to help them navigate the process and reduce the anxiety that a diagnosis brings. Renai is married with three grown children and two fur babies, Chewie and Luna. Renai loves to travel and hopes to continue experiencing new and exciting adventures around the world.

Briana

Briana was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and Inflammatory Breast Cancer in July 2019, finishing her treatment in October 2021. She learned about Inpower through the support group and engaging conversations during her many physical therapy sessions, and was chomping at the bit to get involved.

She spends her spare time with her partner, Jordan, and her spoiled dogs, Bear and Macy. She recently fell back into her love for reading, and really loves being outdoors.

IN MEMORIUM

Jessica Jakubowski

As a young mom, Jessica brought an important perspective to Inpower’s start in 2015. Her intelligence, passion, and caring attitude helped her to connect with others in a special way. She kept the committee on track and organised, built the Breast Friends chat group, and was an integral part of the beginning stages of Inpower. Jessica’s family continues her legacy by supporting Inpower initiatives regularly, which we are forever grateful for.

Jordana Buchan

Jordana was a bright, articulate, passionate woman who loved her family fiercely along with music, books, and her community. She was a fierce advocate for breast cancer, and in particular, supporting well-known local initiatives. Jordana used her experience to teach so many of us about the importance of metastatic breast cancer and gave that community a voice it had never had before her. She started her own CIBC Run for the Cure team called "Count Me(ts) In," which now continues with Jordana's name sake under her friend Karin’s leadership and has a tradition of being the top fundraising team in Regina. This accomplishment enables the team to request that all funds raised go towards metastatic breast cancer.

Jordana was also a beautiful singer, and we are glad to have access to recordings, YouTube videos and more to help her memory live with us. We miss her knowledge, support, advice, humour and beautiful voice more than words could ever express.

Chantal Bissonnette Castonguay

Chantal was passionate about helping others, and generous with her gifts. Her contributions to our breast cancer community are many. Whether you first got to know Chantal through Talk Tuesdays on Facebook live in the Breast Friends group, met her at an art class, participated in one of her writing or art activities at one of our retreats, followed her beauty tips, joined one of her book clubs or simply met her at one of our Inpower events, Chantal became a friend to all. She was authentic and compassionate and inspiring, and left her mark on everyone she met.

We look forward to developing a beauty and support legacy initiative in honour of Chantal in the future.
